I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that handspring was the only
vendor to produce a 3.5 device that runs on 16bpp (aka, the Prism).
However, before any third party programs (aka, us) can take advantage
of this, we need to use to their API.

In other words even before this change, these devices are still going
to be telling us that they only support a max bitdepth of 8bpp.

Ofcourse I don't have a Handspring Prism to test this on.
