I had been struggling to reproduce the "bug" in a situation that anyone could reproduce - hence the lack of a bug report - and found that turning the dynamic scrollbar off _did_ stop both the "unstoppable scrolling" and the "intermittent 514 error when the scrolling stops". Irrespective of the odd behaviour, removing the dynamic scrollbar is a good idea because, probably, not 1 in 100 people could guess what it actually means ...
