Can somebody who knows how to do XSLT do this and convince Laurens to
include it in the JPluck distribution??  I would love to use JPluck this
way, and I'm sure I'm not alone in this...

It would probably be better to leave <CR><space> alone as well, there are
some examples of poetry in the archive.
