LFS *WILL* teach you! :) Feel free to 'untar' a fresh copy of the source, wrap all the build instructions in a script, and do: bash -x ./my-build-script 2>&1|tee /tmp/build.log
Send me /tmp/build.log and I'll take a look at the problems.
Best!
ET
PS: Make sure that the script is something like:
./configure && make && echo GOOD

ET, Sorry for the delay in replying, I have been unwell for a few days. I have applied your recommendations and I am now down to the point of its complaining about various function members not being found. It is a different set, but more that will have to be worked through. I have encountered this sort of thing in my programming and I think I can get them sorted out, eventually. I do see a few other matters like the code has broken links to various utilities that are not located the same place on the new system as the old.
I appreciate your input on the matter.
In any case I am coming to the point that I wonder if the goal is worth the time it is going to take for a resolution. Eventually I am going to get a similar machine for myself and I will be able to work on at my convenience.
The target machine is usually being used my my wife.
I do want to figure it out, but I may have to do some more learning first. I do like your comments about Linux From Scratch and I think I will work my way through that. I think that should teach me the things I would need to know.
