13,000ish for each color.

It sounds like you are looking to do photo work with your printer. If you want something that looks like a photo then you don't want any laser printer. Laser printers print too crisp. You need something that will allow inks or dyes to run together a little bit.

So you'll want to get an inkjet or dye sublimation printer.

If I were you, I would look at what it costs to just get things printed at walmart or some other place. I think you'll find that it's worth it, especially when you consider that the yield numbers are based on a 5% coverage. With photos your coverage is much much higher so every print will be more like printing 20 pages worth of ink taken out of every cartride, so you'll be eating through inkjet cartridges after 50ish prints. Just get yourself a decent inkjet for when you need something quickly.

My printer is $59.95+$5.49 shipping for a black high
yield (18,000 pages) genuine xerox cartridge, non-refill.
$28.00 for a low yield cart (9,000 pages)

If I wanted after market, I could get all 4 high yield
cartridges (1 black + 3 color) for $85. Refills could
probably be had for less than that.

So far I haven't managed to even use one cartridge up.

If you can get 15000-20000 pages for $50-$70, it's
                almost for sure a
refilled cartridge. Unless you know the chemical and
                physical
consistency of the toner with which they refill, you
                could end up
                damaging your expensive printer.
