I have one of those all-in-one HP printers that is 8 years old. Prints great.

To be able to scan I needed to use the windows software that came with it. I have not researched how to configure the print to fax and how to scan using Linux... not sure it will work in these capacities with Linux.

I would think you would want to research the printer you would like to buy to ensure full functionality under Linux.
