I really like Jonathan’s idea. It will probably be pretty long, but send me
the last 100 lines or so of the strace. Shucks, if you send it via email just
to me (not the whole list), zip it up and send the whole thing, as long as it
fits in an email message…

Also, I notice that I’m running 46.0.1 on my Mint system, with an upgrade to 47
shown in synaptic as well as update manager. Its indeed Mint 17 Qiana 64-bit…

(By the way, did you use update manager to do this update?)

‘Just for fun’, I’m updating to v 47.

I know that under Ubuntu you can switch back to an older version. I don’t
think that’s easy under Mint, as if you use update manager its supposed to
always work….

Also, is it mint 17 64-bit or 32-bit? Mate/Cinnamon/something_else?

Thanks!

Rusty

Can you launch firefox via commandline with strace? It might offer some insight
as to what it's doing when it crashes...

Try: mv ~/.mozilla ~/DOT.mozilla
You will lose any passwords and what not, but if that
stops the crashing, at least you know where it is coming
from. You can restore it later if need be.

else and then restarting firefox. The directory with ALL your
firefox 'stuff'. If renaming it makes firefox work ...

Thanks guys. I tried both, but it still crashes.
I even deleted all known mozilla and firefox and did
a complete fresh install from synaptic, and it still
keeps crashing on startup. Everything else on my system
is working fine.

What next?
