Yes, I've heard the hardware support is pretty good on most Dell models. IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads have worked really well for me as well, and they're the only thing that I can really consider because no other manufacturer makes laptops with TrackPoints. It's a pity that Toshiba stopped doing that, they were at least an IBM alternative. The only problem is having to download firmware for the wireless card--which seems to be endemic to all wireless cards now.
I went with an HP at one point, and it was a basketcase to work with for linux, I'll never even consider them again.
That too. IME, HP's computers are prone to stupid problems, and HP-UX was a joke. They should've stuck to printers and calculators since they can get those things right.
