This is apparently a relatively common problem. The thing that they usually recommend is to have whatever handles the suspend event (ACPI script?) rmmod the module for your wireless card. Then have the script that runs on resume modprobe that module. I don't know whether Mint has a tool that makes these things easier, but that's how I would approach this on a Gentoo/acpid machine.
