You might also want to try Xandros Linux. I've tried it's limited
version, which I got with PCQ magazine. Installation was absolutely
without a hitch and UI was very much like windows. Can also be
switched to look like MAC! (I've never even seen a MAc, so I won't
comment much on this, but there was an option for this in Xandros
desktop manager)
A big surprise for me was that Xandros detected and configured my
internal HSF modem during installation itself! This wasn't the case
with SuSE. And the modem sure did work correctly with default
configuration. But otherwise, being a limited edition, I didn't find
it much suitable for my needs, so removed it in a day.

But I must say, Xandros is a pretty neat distro for a Linux starter.
