Hi Aditya, I think about IDS and firewall i have the same perceptions.
IDS = just detects (may be configured to use dynamic firewall to prevent)
IPD = detects actively and prevents
Firewall = prevents only (follows a set of rules, and is stateless)

IDS will detect and alert, firewall will just follw set of rules, will log, drop or pass the information.
