Dear Pluggies, I am still trying to configure my friend's Reliance phone. But I did not realize it is a bit mor complicated. To clarify, the question is about connecting a fixed wirelesss cdma phone and NOT cdma mobile using SuSe 9.1.
Reliance calls the service Fixed Wireless and Tata Indicom calls it "Walky". For Reliance the phone model number is: LG LSP 340E, for Tata it is LG LSP 345. She visited the Reliance and Tata dealers in Ahmednagar and was told that it was not possible to connect to internet using Linux with these phones, that the inbuilt modem did not work in Linux. They could be gotten to dial okay, but then the connection could not be completed. The Tata guy (who was the more knowledgeable -- had tried to get some local college students to connect using Linux but they were not successful). He said you could connect using a Reliance CDMA mobile but not with the fixed wireless. Searching Google found a few hits about this but none of them seem conclusive in terms of successfully connecting and some of them only apply to CDMA mobiles. The recent PCQuest article was also only about cdma mobiles. Has anyone had any luck with ANY distro and the fixed/Walky type of phone? This is turning into an interesting adventure. The Tata dealer showed interest in linux since in the past year he had had to format his hard drive three times due to viruses - despite having antivirus software and updating it frequently! Thanks, Gus. -- ______________________________________________________________________ Pune GNU/Linux Users Group Mailing List: ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) List Information: http://plug.org.in/mailing-list/listinfo/plug-mail Send 'help' to [EMAIL PROTECTED] for mailing instructions.
