broadband connection. thats tooooo fast...for BSNL to respond...

Hi,
The advertisment made by BSNL says they are going to proivde us A-DSL connection. Dishnet DSL, used to provide the customers with a A-DSL connection and the modem, needed to be connected to the m/c using an USB port. But I am sure that there will be modems whcih can be connected to the m/c using ethernet card's.

The problem of linux connectivity will arrive, if the modems provided by BSNL will have an USB connectivity.

But I have another query, BSNL will provide us with A-DSL on the same pair of copper cable, coming into your house and the one ovr which u are presently using your phone connection. So, I wonder are they going to give us some kind of instrument which will split the signals of regular telephone and the internet signal! Will this instrument itself double up as the modem or will there be an modem between the M/c and instrument?

BSNL advertisment also says that they are giving dynamic IP addresses. Hence it will be IP over DHCP. Hence, I expect to have some sort of dialer, to dial into the network, though it will be faster than the regular dial-up.

Regards
Aditya

P.S: One last concern, when they are providing the A-DSL line over the same twisted pair of copper cables, can we actually reach a speed of 1Mbps?? Technically yes, but practically looking at the state of affairs and given line conditions, will it be really possible?
