Friends, At present I am using WindowsXP OS with my 1.7GB/256MB/40GB computer. Knowing my interest in Linux My brother in law presented me a set of 4 CD's of Mandrake 10, which he brought from the recently held Exhibition in Pune. In the leaflet provided along with the CD's, it is mentioned that " Even it is possible to install the distribution to your hard disk, it is not necessary to install. You can run a complete Linux System directly from the CD." I have run all four CD's and was unable to find how to run Linux System from CD, without installing. I don't want to install Linux System right now in my hard disc. It will be of great help to me, if you let me know how to run Linux without installing. I have visited your site www.plug.org and also subscribed to your mailing list. As I am living in Mumbai, it is not possible for me to attend the course conducted at Symbiosis in Pune. I will be highly obliged, if you let me know, of any similar activities carried out in Mumbai.
Dear Jagdish Chandra,
Being a newbie to the linux world, I can understand your difficulties.
The CDs you received are not Live CDs. Please visit the plug website (http://plug.org.in/software.php) again and see the list of CDs we have. Mandrake 10.x is not live CD. Probably you dont know this as you have not interacted with the people while booking the CDs. Otherwise, they would have suggested you as per your needs.
The leaflet provided with the CDs was given with all types of CDs we gave that time. That was given to facilitate the users to install the distributions OR run the LIVE CDs. The statement you mentioned is specifically meant for Live CDs eg. Knoppix. If you want any live CDs, you can book them again or you can get it from Mumbai Linux users group people.
For the benefit of others, here is the copy-paste of the leaflet contents..

You may read the articles on the following websites before installing your GNU/Linux distribution on your system.

You can also refer to the official websites of those projects.
Live CDs are bootable CDs. Even if it is possible to install the distribution on your hard disk, it is not necessary to install. You can run a complete Linux system directly from the CD.
For any more queries, post them on the PLUG mailing list to get answers from other people on the list. Visit PLUG website <http://www.plug.org.in/>www.plug.org.in and subscribe to the mailing list. You will not be able to send your mail without subscribing.
