right MTD is def. not needed the usb driver takes care of the built in
flash. As for the nonworking pen drive, can you check the discussions
at the time of around 2.6.3 on the usb-storage mailing list and lkml
archives? It seems 2.6 encountered some problems in the standards used
and some workaround was put in/ (or not i don't exactly remember).

May be you have hit the same problem. Also try sending mail to
usb-storage list directly.
