No kernel expert here, but that should be solved by moving time_t to 64-bit, yes? and by that time, i think most linux users should have moved to x86-64 64 bit processors too (or whatever other 64 bit tech that comes out by then) ... :) (most other unix platforms are already 64-bit i guess) sparc, alpha blah blah..

And yes, making time_t to 64 bit and recompiling glibc and the apps should do it. I wonder how proprietary apps will do it without vendor support (and many of the vendors might be extinct).
