I am not sure about Ubuntu, but this may work: Edit
/etc/apt/preferences file and add lines as below:

          Package: xscreensaver
          Pin: version 5.8*
          Pin-Priority: 1001

Change 5.8* in the middle line to current xscreensaver version (hint:
aptitude show xscreensaver | grep -i version). If possible, read man
apt_preferences.

BTW, tell us back if it worked.

Thanks for the help. I wont be able to tell whether it worked or not, since
I am not going to do as you said. I have opened a bug against kubuntu to
take care of the same and they have accepted it.

Thanks all for the help.
