Some other things happened including more applications disappearing, the laptop booting only-XP, not-booting-both-XP-and-Mandriva etc. I entered safe mode of XP last night to get updates from IBM/Lenovo which did not run due to safe mode of XP. Then did system recovery (IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad utility). Luckily had one date to choose from the options for recovery. I am using the same laptop to type this message. At the moment Mandriva is crippled, I do not know much about state of XP as I do not venture much that side. I will update in a couple of days as per availability of time (there are things to be done before deadlines pass) and useful information. I have not done any analysis of the events so far. Hope to learn something from this phase.
