Is it an asus board? There have been reported problems with IGP chipsets since it's a non-standard proprietory technology similar to AGP, from what I remember reading. You will need to use safe graphics mode as you did in ubuntu. If you don't have safe graphics mode, others can tell you how to pass boot options to the kernel. You need to pass vesa or vga options to the kernel.
