I got BOFH_666's updated drivers (forgot the web page) which are a hacked
version of Aureal's Linux drivers, and it works now. Even fixes some of
the outstanding problems with Aureal's stuff. I know PCI devices can share
IRQs but the video card's IRQ can't be reassigned.

That said, it's way cool! the Vortex2 supports up to 76 hardware streams.
I used a little Perl script to make /dev/dsp00 up to /dev/dsp63 (via mknod
-- this is "just" 64 devices). This is a LONG WAY from full-duplex sound
since you can have up to 76 audio devices running simultaneously, so
technically you don't need ESD anymore.

I noticed that the Flash 4.0 player for Netscape commandeers /dev/dsp so I
attached my ESD to /dev/dsp15. I could also put Kaudioserver on another
device but I don't use KDE.

The Linux drivers don't support A3D, the optical out, or the way-cool
hardware equalizer, but that should be coming sooner or later. Too bad the
Aureal drivers aren't open-source, the Vortex2 beats the sh*t out of the
SBLive in every way imaginable (and the 2.048 driversfor Windoze now
support Creative's SoundFont and EAX).
