Uh-uh. gnokii is a "raw" packet-level interface to the phone. right now it
has most of the functionality of Nokia's data suite but in a very
user-unfriendly form (command-line anyone?)

Oh thats easy. You need an IP connection to the SMSC (short message
service center). You talk to the SMSC using the CIMD 1.3, SMPP 3.3,
UCP/EMI 2.0 or SEMA protocols to send/receive SMS messages. I think Globe
uses CIMD, FWIW.

This is how Wireless Asia does their globetones.com service. You need that
IP connection and Globe wont give you one unless

 a) you have compelling content
 b) you give them big bucks
 c) all of the above

You will then need an SMS gateway (something that you feed SMS messages
to, and it outputs CIMD to the SMSC at the other end). One free software
for that is kannel (www.kannel.org). kannel is also a WAP gateway, by the
by.

p.s. if anyone gets kannel working and has SMSC connectivity, I'd LOVE to
hear from you. As I dont have (a) (b) or (c) above, there's little chance
Globe will let me IP-connect to their SMSC so I can play..
