I've fixed this lots of times:
Solution:
#1 Instead of using Redhat's partition utility,
choose fdisk instead and do it manually.
#2 Choose a newer distribution of Linux say Redhat
6.2 or Mandrake 7 or some other new distro and you
won't see that problem.
That 8.4gb thing is a Redhat Partitioner problem, not
a Linux problem.
