For Debian GNU/Linux you will find the startup scripts in /etc/init.d/

There's also a bunch of scripts in /etc/rc.boot, /etc/rc0.d ... 
/etc/rcS.d which may actually be symlinks to scripts in /etc/init.d/ or
not.
