what seems to be the trouble? i've set up NYS (aka NIS) servers/clients
successfully and still use it a lot. it isn't a waste, it's just a tad
difficult to set up quickly. what distribution and version are you setting
it up on?
thorsten kukuk's documentation at
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/NIS-HOWTO.html regarding setting up NIS/NYS
is pretty complete. YMMV per distribution. i've had an easy time using it
on our debian gnu/linux setup at UP Manila, though i -have- installed NIS
on slackware and redhat setups before.
we use NIS on our login hosts at UP Manila, though i'd seriously like to
migrate that over to OpenLDAP or Kerberos for authentication and other
stuff. haven't had the time to do so yet.
eric
p.s. is there anyone who's gotten OpenLDAP working like a charm and would
like to share here?
