No, MSI makes a pretty cheap (<7K) Athlon main board. A top-of-the-line BX
main board goes in the 5K neighborhood. Close enough. But IIRC the 1GHz
Intel actually costs LESS than the 1GHz Athlon, and its 256K synchronous
L2 cache with 256-bit backside bus and 0 clock-cycle cache latency make it
faster than the 1GHz Athlon.
[a correction of my earlier claim: the 1GHz PIII is supposed to be CHEAPER
than the 1GHz Athlon]
