# Actually in SV it's 65K average for UNIX gearheads. What the f* am I still
# doing here?? :))

You'll be surprised on how much money SV techies these days. For
starters, the good ones get 'round US$5-20K sign-in bonuses, US$80-120K
('am talking H1-B's here) salary range, and hefty stock options. The
downside? At that range, the total deduction for singles is 'round 35-38%
(federal, state, medicare, etc), apartment rent is 'round
US$1.5-2.5K/month (can go higher) for one bedroom apartment, cost of
living is higher compared to other cities in California. Did I say houses
cost 'round US$1M-<x> for a dinky 2-bedroom house in a so-so area? Now if
you get that same in, say, Wisconsin, then we're talking serious dough
here :)
Here are some sites I check once in a while:

stay cool.
