I don't know if it works for RH 6.2...I read this a
long time ago when I pondered creating my own updated
RH bootable CD.

When installing from the CD, the installation program
on the CD relies on the file RedHat/base/hdlist
describing what RPM packages are available on the CD.
The hdlist file can be generated by the program
misc/src/install/genhdlist. This program must be run
