All of these can be done automatically by scripts. Normally you would want to
check stuff like disk space, availablity of network services like SMTP, FTP,
DNS, just to see if they are up. I'm sure you can get most of these from the
net. Applications like Big Brother comes to mind, you you could roll your own
scripts as well, depending on the information you need.
