hi. first of all, thanks for the reply. you're right, that command didn't work.
actually, what works is unloading parport_pc module and load it like this: "insmod
parport_pc io=0x378 irq=5". then it'll show in procfs. thing is, i still can't get that
stupid device to work. i guess i just can't get to network this laptop under linux,
where i need it most (for c development). i've tried 2.2.16 and the latest 2.3.x
kernels and still no go. i can't believe i regressed back to sneakernet. =)

for those who're interested, i'm using a DE620CT, one of those pocket adapters from
D-Link which connects to the parallel port. the school got 10 of these to loan out to
students who wish to use our plug-in ports in some of the buildings. we got ours from
our supplier, Universal Computers, i think more than a year ago. i don't know if D-Link
still manufactures these models. the nice thing abt them is that there are linux kernel
drivers for them. actually, if you look at the menuconfig, there are only 3 pocket
adapters supported. and two of them are dlink.

anyway, i really hate this situation. my other pocket adapter is an ATEN UC10T
USB-Ethernet adapter. no linux support. darn. pcmcia cards are just too darn expensive
for me right now and plip is too much of a hassle as i would need another computer to
connect to. oh well...bahala na.

thanks.

vince.
