Yes. At the UP College of Medicine we have a whole lab of Macs that is
connected to the UP LAN/WAN and they get their IP Addresses by DHCP from a
Linux Server

Not samba. Use netatalk. This enables a Linux server to share files with a
Mac. The Mac uses it's native file sharing clients to access files on the
Linux server.

See above. Netatalk is everything you need to Network Linux servers with
Macs. Netatalk is included with most major distributions.

To put this On-topic.. Why not install Linux on the Mac? There are Linux
distributions for M68K macs (classic, etc) and for Powermacs (G3, G4,
I-Macs). Debian and RedHat have Mac versions, and there are distribs
really for Macs (e.g. YellowDog).
