There have been many good suggestions. Choose one of those. One of the boxes I use is pentium III 300Mhz, but it's got much more RAM than your box (512MB). It's important to use a lightweight desktop manager. I can't work with KDE or Gnome. They run OK with 512MB but that startup time drives me nuts. And the applications and framework are just far too fat to live well on 128MB. I recommend icewm for your desktop. But there are other lightweight desktops, choose one that you like (blackbox, roxio, ion, fluxbox, fvwm, windowmaker, even twm for a 32MB linux desktop :-). although, actually, i used to run icewm on a 32MB linux laptop, so that's OK too. slow, but usable. there are quite a few discussions in the archives on how to make linux run well on low memory computers. yours isn't really low memory, but the tips are useful anyway. see the archives. good luck. tiger _________________________________________________ Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List [email protected] (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Read the Guidelines: http://linux.org.ph/lists Searchable Archives: http://archives.free.net.ph
