I need your opinions regarding a network that will require six fast
ethernet ports, which will you prefer pentium 4 linux-based zebra router
or a cisco 3640?
since you're a service provider, I'd be very careful trying to run a
"Pentium 4" PC based router. now if it's an embedded Linux box with
diskless hardware, I'd go for it. :)
if you are concern about movable parts... nowadays there are lots of pc that
are fully redundant... dual processor... dual power supply... motherboards
that has builtin raid controller that supports raid 1 (mirroring) for dual
disk....
for me, i look for price over performance plus the flexibility that the
device can offer like how many ethernet ports can be supported.... upgrading
cost like uprading the ram, fastethernet to gigabit.... what protocols and
services that device can offer.... and others...
fooler.
