posting in the newbie list is just like posting in a ghost list, nobody is
answering your question, i had two recent post and the only person bothered

i am just for an official stand on this issue. rules are there to be
enforced and as long as the current rules stand then they are treated
as having the blessing of the current list. naive but it is as simple
as that. :)

which was my original point.

linux has a wide scope of applications and if i was not mistaken jan's
post were something about networks and mail servers in an
enterprise-grade setting. hardly newbie-stuff and something that other
people have experienced. but again calling it a ghost list is pushing
it. there are still advanced users subscribe to both list to
facilitate sharing of knowledge.

that said, who's flaming/insulting the newbies? surely not me..

pinoy e-mailers have this tendency to be onion-skinned. they are
treating redirect reminders as a direct flame/insult. yes, they are
sometimes terse but this is text communication. most people who take
insults are those who see so much negative impression on a simple
sentence: "please post your message in the ---- list because this is
hardly appropriate for this list". boom! me thinks you have to
paraphrase those messages to fit royalty but then again it might be
construed as a sarcastic reminder and we are back on square 1.

elitism is a perceived status. it is given and most often not wanted
by the person on the receiving end. notice how it is often "they are
elite" rather than "we are elite"?

8-) <- for those reading my mails, this is a warm smiley, the state
that my face is contorted with when i was composing this email.

ciao!

I think that main points of this discussion is the ff:

1) There are reasons for different threads / discussions / categories / topics. There is no reason to make a unified thread.

2) If there are questions and people who know the answers then let us have those questions and let the answers be heard.

3) Flaming... hmmmm.... although the techie meaning does point to harsh and aggressive words... let us also take the fact that people do have different tolerances to how things are said... also some people, due to their desperate need for information (maybe...), may just find some replies a bit rude. (It's like calling for tech support in your time of need and then the tech person on the other side of the line says "Sa **** po kayo tumawag... mali po tinawagan nyo... so to the caller it is a bit insulting and rude diba!). I think it is just a matter of misunderstanding... and so on...

4) If there are no answers to your questions... don't give up!

In conclusion.... As I have said before... Newbies / Other People with Questions.. sige go ahead.. tanong lang ng tanong.. No need to be ashamed or what... To the people who knows... Sagot lang ng sagot. So let us end this discussion na... sayang ang oras and discussion space (hahahaha).. we just keep on running in circles. We still have a lot of things to discuss... such as different Linux Problems!
