Oops, this is another can of worms to open again! ;) Anyhow, you can take your pick from the many server-oriented distributions in DistroWatch[1], or in LWN's list[2]. Personally, I would just put Debian Sarge in it, bake a custom kernel, and tweak just about everything from sysctl to the boot sequence to get it up and running just the way I want it ;) [1] http://www.distrowatch.com [2] http://lwn.net/Distributions/ > some important specs: > 2 Gb DDR > 4 X 80 Gb hardisk drives (7200 rpm) > > I notice kasi na ang bagal mag-boot ng Fedora Core 4 at Ubuntu (latest > release) sa server na ito. What can you recommend na free Linux > distribution? I've heard the same complaints from the FC4 users at Naga; I don't know much about what causes this myself, but I suspect one can always do some rc.d script tweaking and remove unnecessary/unwanted startup action. > Siya nga pala, I visited the redhat.com website sabi: > Fedora, is for - Developer or highly technical enthusiast using Linux > in non-critical computing environments > > Ibig bang sabihin nito ay talagang hindi advisable or recommended for > business use ang Fedora, like caching proxy server? The operative word here is `non-critical'; if you're just using this caching server for, say, worktime internet browsing, you *could* try Fedora (as long as you keep your boss informed ;). Otherwise, if you have an intranet and would want to speed communications between departments, I would recommend using a distro with commercial AND community support. Cheers, Zakame - -- Zak B.
