If you're going to post this on the squid mailing list, they will
just tell you to use the OS that you are most comfortable with,
that way, you can configure your squid installation as fast and
as good as you can.

In general terms, that is true.

p.s.
I don't agree with your post that *BSD and slackware are "difficult",
but It's your opinion and I respect that :-).
heck, I'm sure that i'm not the only one in this list that consider
slack as one of the most easiest distro to work with.
