This is just based on my own experience. Sharing SWAP space among distros is not a bad idea. I have used Slack, Ubuntu, and Gentoo at one time sharing the same swap space and I had no problem.
Regarding the bootloader, both are fine. Each has their own way of doing it so I suggest that you consult google for articles on setting them up.
