For now, I suggest that you use any TV Tuner that uses the bt8xx
chipset. These are well supported in Linux. However, if you plan need
PVR like features (ala-TiVO), then you should look for Hauppage PVR
series (PVR-250, -350, -150, or -550). Unfortunately, these cards are
not available locally, but from time-to-time, there are sompe people
who sell them at Bidshot and eBay.ph. I got mine from someone selling
at Bidshot last month. Anyway, the advantage of using these cards is
that they have built-in MPEG encoders. This will free-up your CPU for
other tasks or you could use older CPUs. You need at least a 2GHz
processor for real-time MPEG encoding (using MythTV) if your card
doesn't have a built-in encoder, but if your card has one, even a
300MHz Pentium-II will do.
