It will work I had a friend who has ibook and he installed ubuntu on it.
Unix is the base system that run on mac or OS X.
I have mac mini too but I able to run all the services that I am
using in linux. Mac mini is a wonderful web server, there are some
more features that you do the same services that I am running on my
linux machine.
Well may be it depends on what to you want, I mean what services you
want.

I doubt that will work on PPC Macs. Maybe on Intel Macs. VMWare is not
exactly a CPU emulator, rather it just virtualizes your x86 processor.
