One of the best walk-throughs about this that I've seen on the net is Branden 
Robinson's notes (http://people.debian.org/~branden/ibook.html)

There are other neat web pages that discuss the particulars for the Mac Mini, 
which isn't that different from the iBook, as far as I can tell. There are some 
particulars that are specific to the Mac Mini, I suppose, so you can also check 
out http://www.sowerbutts.com/linux-mac-mini/ as Paolo pointed out.

Yes, you will have to partition your hard disk, similar to that of a PC.
You will probably need your MacOS X Install CD-ROM.
