pc based routers are not good for frequent on and off since it uses
hard disk and you need to manually shutdown it unlike appliance router
where you just push the off button and its done.
Anyway - if the server is used for something else, like smtp server or a dns server which is always on, anyway, might as well use it as a router, cpu/io cycles permitting though.
