The connecting computers are running W1nd0z3 xp Pro. To which user should I change the ownership to? Do I need to add a user called public?

is this a domain or workgruop setup? you have to use the administrator account of your windoze machine before you can access the files. On 3/29/06, AC Perdon <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:if your using win98 i think you have to create the user name and password that win98 use other wins dont need that, also consider david asuncion reply regarding folder permissions. On 3/29/06, John Peter Loh <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:Hello everyone,
I've turned to Samba to share my MP3 files over our home network since I can't setup Icecast properly. I'm using CentOS and installed Samba last night. I can't seem to get it right. I can see the server in the Network Places in the w1nd0z3 computer now but it asks for a username and password. I tried the usernames in /etc/samba/smbusers but nothing seems to work and also added the ones in the system.
I issued "cat /etc/passwd | mksmbpasswd.sh > /etc/samba/smbpasswd" to encrypt all the passwords in the machine (I turned on encryption for the server) but I still can't go in. I checked /etc/samba/smbpasswd and all it has are several Xs for the corresponding users. Or is it supposed to have Xs since it's encrypted? I also created the directories for the shares.
I also tried SWAT but didn't make changes since the config seemed okay from there.
