the shortcomings of the report "draft". they're not aware
that the report was already posted on INQ7.net.
xmlrpc vulnerability on PHP are known to compromise
linux-based and as well as unix-based (from Sun, HP
etc.) hosts. the report should indicate PHP xmlrpc on
*nix (not linux alone) attacks but i can't find those details
on the report.
while the attacks on PHP-based applications are known
to compromise MS Windows & *nix hosts (unless attacked
using the xmlrpc vulnerability). again, i can't find those details
on the report.

Without going through all the raw data you can't say for sure. As they
said: "Data indicates that more attacks are directed towards Linux systems
as compared to Microsoft systems". I assume they are just relaying what
the data says. They mentioned backdoors and a particular web-based
backdoor that is unix/linux centric, if you can get a copy the source indicates
just that. Most of the attacks probably had linux backdoors coming with it.
But you are right it should be indicated that these web applications can be
hosted on Windows. I think it also should be mentioned that most of the
'attacks' are automated. Anyway pretty graphs.
