The boot up is "normal". It just takes a long time, like it takes a minute or more for GRUB to load the kernel. And then each service that is starting takes long as well, compared to other boxes with similar configs. I have a P4 Duo that boots up Ubuntu and all the VMWare VMs (7 VMs) in 5 minutes.
