You probably need some way to get your computer read sound input from
your tape first.  I suppose you can do that by setting up your tape
playback machine to send audio to your computer's line-in port via some
jack, but in my experience, some line-in ports degrade the overall sound
quality (I once tried recording some dialogues for mixing in to some
music, only to find out that I got pops and hisses instead of voices.)

I suppose you can minimize those `artifacts' by remastering your audio,
either thru Audacity or some other sound editor (ReZound's, or Ardour's,
both of which support LADSPA, comes to mind.)
