Subject: [plug] GIGABIT LAN

hi guys,

we are setting up a gigabit LAN.. but only the FILE and INTERNET server
have the 10/100/1000 mbit card.. all the client will be using 10/100 mbit
card..

thus the client will benifit from our new gigabit network?

if your switch have two gigabit ports connected to file and internet server then yes otherwise everything will boils down to either 10 or 100 mbps bandwidth depends on the autonegotiation took placed in your switch...

assuming that you have gigabit ports... your internet server wont benefit that gigabit bandwidth due to the fact that your internet speed is only as fast as its slowest link... that is.. your slowest link or the fastest bandwidth you can get is your link going to your internet service provider...

for file server... you will greatly benefit from it... congestion took place when the summation of all small pipes are greater than the big pipe... therefore you need 10 clients (1000 mbps / 100 mbps ) to saturate their 100mpbs link and 1gbps link to the server...

oh by the way, ethernet is not an ethernet anymore the way it used to be before...

fooler.
