Im afraid you have to read the manual. Use google. Or you can read the source. I skimmed over the vdt website. I think what you need is all there. In open source development there are no nicely bound documentation.
Or you can rewrite the whole thing. I do that when the documentation is very bad. Well when i started with linux on an ibm mca arch ps2 77 i had to pull my hair for about six months. That was about 8 years ago. Its not that easy guys. But its not rocket science. Speaking of rocket science im tempted to ask why study grid computing for your thesis? Isnt it better to tackle something more specific like configuration trees in linux? Or maybe solving the spam problem in smtp? or maybe just study algorithms for removing those advertising footers in email in email gateways? google likes that kind of things you know. Ah! another nice topic is to survey the performance of all dynamic memory allocation strategies known today. Maybe you should go and have a look at the computer science websites in US universities for inspiration. I recommend university of utah and mit. i downloaded a lot of papers and thesis from there. You will notice how they use linux and other free software for computer research almost exclusively. On 7/4/06, Allister Levi Sanchez <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
Hi PLUG gurus, Speaking of grid computing, is anybody here an expert / has had some experience? We're now trying to experiment with VDT (Virtual Data Toolkit, http://vdt.cs.wisc.edu/). We did the installation but are now in facing a blank wall. For example, how do we actually use it? Like, e.g., how do we actually submit jobs and which services to run, if any? Apple's G4 and macOSX says it can do this and once connected to the grid the compile time (eg for Java) goes down almost to 1/100. I'd love that to be readily available for FC..
