to everyone who has responded, first, thanks!
great ideas abound in this group. second, we're not particular in pushing for a certain linux distro in the bill. but, as my Representative say, we should 'practice what we preach', so our office will have a 'linux migration project' so to speak. so i'm asking what particular distro would be the best choice that would be most user-friendly. so far, it's a toss-up between ubuntu and bayanihan linux. third, yes i've heard of some open source legislations in some countries, but i haven't finished reading them yet. in india, i heard, 3 to 4 years back, their gov't has adopted linux, but bill gates, upon learning this, donated some PCs to the gov't ergo nullifying the gov't policy. this is one scenario that could happen here in the philippines. lastly, there is no guarantee or assurance that the bill will be enacted into a law. with the present composition of this House, it's a long shot to enact such a bill. all bill gates has to do is buy some congressmen to shoot down the bill. but then, we might as well try, there is no harm in trying, right? at the minimum, open source /FLOSS will be promoted, hopefully debated upon in the committee/plenary level. also, we have to have a senator to sponsor a similar if not the same bill. at any rate, promoting knowledge and exposure for the OSS and open source community are good enough for me. for people to know that there is an alternative to proprietary software is already a big thing. rest assured that we'll do anything we can to have a good bill. all suggestions will be considered. maybe in 2 to 3 weeks time, we'll finish the draft. i will post it here. tnx again, and may the force be with us all! kaloy __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
