>I work for a service company. You cannot provide service without providing software. we dont sell software. >call it a conspiracy of the service providing companies to defraud the software selling companies of their income. >whats the difference between the regents of the university of california and government? get the latest bsd license. replace government of the republic >>of the philippines everywhere there is regents of the university of california. whats the difference? none! >i will vote for all the members of any political party who can provide all of the software government uses to the whole internet. it does not make sense >for private enterprise to pay for software that will be given away. only governement can. >everybody has access to roads right? its just a logical extension of the service. In the end everyone is selling service. I work for a product company and it still end up as service one way or another. Besides, if you havent noticed the future of products based companies (including software ) is tied to service. If software companies cannot provide what the client wants, then it should close shop. The age of protectionism is over, if there are monopolies like Mictrosoft, its because they are providing something that someone needs. TYCO, GE, ADOBE, COOPER, INTEL are some examples virtual monopoliesbut you don't complain about them. They affect your life in many ways. TYCO for instance has a monopoly on fire and security systems, they provide product and service. GE has a monopoly in aviation controls, the provide product, service and now even financing. Are they defrauding anyone? No! No one can compete with them becuae they are the best at what they do. The difference of the University of California is that it is a private company, if it is a public school it is still governed by its charter, they can do evrything as long as it is under their charter. Including refusing entry to students for whatever reason (try UP for instance). Can the government deny you your citizenship? No! Even the most hardened criminals do not lose their citizenship, admission is permanent until you renonunce it yourself. Does the constitution say that it is the governments responsibility to provide software? NO! does it say it should provide IT? NO! How about roads? Yes!, Schools Yes!. It is not a logical extention, you have access to roads, power and water because the government is to provide public utilities, ie basic necessities. Software is not necessary to live. To make a living for some yes, but to live no way. Software is not a public necessity therefore the government is not mandated to provide it to you, it is not mandated that they use it etc. In fact if they do not use PC's you really cant complain as long as the system works for them. They are not required to use it. Like I said, it's a tool. Do not compare the government to companies, it is inherently different no matter what way you put it. _________________________________________________ Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List [email protected] (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Read the Guidelines: http://linux.org.ph/lists Searchable Archives: http://archives.free.net.ph
