Hi: I've been able to replace my old laptop (a Dell Latitude C640) that died a few weeks ago with an IBM Thinkpad T42p. I was expecting that all will go well when I reinsert the old hard disk to the new laptop but I hit a few snags:
The device names have changed - I don't have eth0 and eth1 but I now have eth2 and eth3. Here's the mapping of the original network devices as well as the new ones: Dell Latitude: eth0 - 3Com Vortex Boomerang eth1 - Orinoco Classic IBM Thinkpad: eth2 - Intel e1000 eth3 - Intel IPW2200 Now - how do I revert the naming of devices from eth2 -> eth0, and eth3 -> eth1, without the use of ifrename? I was quite surprised when I did a kernel upgrade as prior to that: eth2 - Intel IPW2200 eth3 - Intel e1000 So I guess there must be some thing that controls the naming of devices... any hints? -- Paolo Alexis Falcone [EMAIL PROTECTED] _________________________________________________ Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List [email protected] (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Read the Guidelines: http://linux.org.ph/lists Searchable Archives: http://archives.free.net.ph
