If its winmodem or proprietary modem well dont expect that its driver will be included in your favorite distro. In my Dell it has a wireless lan that uses proprietary driver which suse explicitly said it will not include any driver for any proprietary hardware producst. Good thing theres a opensource wrapper that I can use and now I have a working wireless for my linux laptop.
